H.E. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Lord Mayor of the City of London Andrew Parmley
2017/02/12

On 10 February, Chinese Ambassador to the UK H.E. Liu Xiaoming met with Andrew Parmley, the Lord Mayor of the City of London. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening the cooperation and exchanges between China and the City of London.

Ambassador Liu appreciated the efforts of Lord Mayor Andrew Parmley in actively expanding cooperation with China since he took office, and expounded the main content of President Xi Jinping's speech at Davos and the fruitful achievements made in the construction of the One Belt and One Road Initiative. Ambassador Liu said that, under the current situation, the strengthening of all-round economic and trade cooperation between China and Britain, especially the promotion of cooperation on the One Belt and One Road Initiative, would be of great significance to upholding the international trade order and providing leadership in the globalisation. The City of London plays an important role in China-UK relations. He hoped that the City would give play to its advantages and influence to expand cooperation with various regions in China, facilitate the active participation of all sectors of Britain in the construction of the "One Belt and One Road", and contribute to the deepening of the "Golden Era" in China-UK relations.

Lord Mayor Andrew Parmley said that the City of London attached great significance to the relations with China. He was looking forward to heading a delegation to visit China late this month so as to strengthen the cooperation with Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and other cities in financial training, green finance, culture, creativity and other sectors, and establish new models of cooperation with China. The City of London also hopes to expand exchanges with Central, Western, Northeastern and other parts of China. The business community in the UK attaches values to the opportunities of the One Belt and One Road Initiative, and is keen to participate in this initiative by applying its expertise in financial, legal, service and other sectors. The City of London is ready to provide support and play a leading role.
