Minister Zhu Qin Attends CGNUK Spring Festival Reception
2019/01/18

On January 17, Minister Zhu Qin attended and addressed CGN Spring Festival Reception. Over 200 people joined the event, including Zheng Dongshan, Chief Executive Officer of CGNUK, Alex Chisholm, Permanent Secretary of State for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Sir Terry Morgan, Chairman of CGNUK advisory board, the Rt Hon. John Whittingdale OBE MP, Pierre-Yves Cordier, Counsellor at Embassy of France in London, and business representatives from China, Britain and France.

Minister Zhu noted in his speech that he was pleased to see the steady progress of the HPC project, which meet the interests of all parties and conforms to the trend of the times. First, it is a project of mutual benefit. It not only provides a great number of jobs and guarantees a stable supply of electricity in Britain, but also contributes to the sustainable development of the UK. Second, it is an illustration of strategic cooperation. HPC has become a flagship project of practical cooperation, which demonstrates the strategic trust between China, the UK and France. Third, it is a model of global partnership. The tri-party cooperation on HPC highlights the value of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit, which will contribute to building an open world economy. The Minister expressed his best wishes for continued progress in HPC and other projects in the year 2019.

Zheng in his speech recalled the progress of HPC in 2018, saying that CGN’s continued development is attributable to the advancement of China’s reform and opening up, the high priority for safety production, and the active expansion on mutually beneficial cooperation with global partners. Looking ahead, CGNUK will continue to contribute to the UK nuclear power industry.
