Charge d'Affaires a.i. Chen Wen Attends the 2019 Liaoning Economic and Trade Symposium and Promotion of Sino-UK (Dalian) Advanced Manufacturing Industry Pilot Park
2019/05/24

On May 23, Charge d'Affaires a.i. Chen Wen attended the 2019 Liaoning Economic and Trade Symposium and Promotion of Sino-UK (Dalian) Advanced Manufacturing Industry Pilot Park and delivered a speech. Tang Yijun, Governor of Liaoning Province, Matthew Rous, Chief Executive of China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), Fang Wenjian, Chairman of China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK), Anthony Samuels, Chairman of Surrey County Council, and 150 representatives from the political, business and education circles of China and Britain were present.

In his speech, Governor Tang said that at present, Liaoning is rapidly replacing old growth drivers with new ones. Because of their complementary industrial strengths, Liaoning and the UK could promote cooperation in the areas of equipment manufacturing, petrochemical, new energy, automobile, shipbuilding and finance, strengthen exchanges in the transformation and development of resource-based regions, and promote the construction of Sino-UK (Dalian) Advanced Manufacturing Industry Pilot Park, working together for mutual development. Liaoning would implement the Foreign Investment Law rigorously to provide qualified services to foreign investors. British companies are welcomed to invest in Liaoning.

Chen said, as a traditional industrial base and one of the first coastal provinces that opened their doors to the world, Liaoning has a special place in the development of New China. In recent years, exchanges and cooperation between Liaoning and the UK have yielded fruitful results. The two sides have been expanding cooperation on manufacturing, new energy, science, technology and education. The building of the Sino-UK (Dalian) Advanced Manufacturing Industry Pilot Park is well underway. In the future, the two sides could leverage their policy advantage, their comparative strengths, and Liaoning being “the forerunner” of China-UK cooperation to take their mutually-beneficial cooperation to a new level, so as to make new contribution to the China-UK “Golden Era”.

Rous said that in recent years, trade and investment between the UK and Liaoning have been growing steadily, and more and more British companies have business in many of the cities of Liaoning, such as Shenyang and Dalian. The Symposium would provide a good opportunity for the two sides to jointly discuss cooperation in the areas of advanced materials, new energy, medicine, artificial intelligence and higher education. He believed that the cooperation between the two sides would continue to expand and deepen.

Fang said that the CCCUK is willing to build a platform and bridge for cooperation between Liaoning and the UK, facilitating the enterprises in Liaoning to invest in the UK and more British companies to find investment and business opportunities in Liaoning.

At the Symposium, Song Yanlin, Director-general of Liaoning Provincial Department of Commerce, Jin Guowei, Vice Mayor of Dalian, and Gao Wei, Vice Mayor of Shenyang, made presentations about Liaoning Province, Dalian and Shenyang respectively. The participants are convinced that as China further deepens its reform and opening up, Liaoning and the UK would have broad prospects for cooperation.
