Minister Chen Wen Attends the SMMT International Automotive Summit 2019

On June 25, Minister Chen Wen was invited to attend the SMMT International Automotive Summit 2019 and participated in the panel discussion of Britain, Europe and Global Trade.

Minister Chen said in her speech that the current China-UK relations have been developing steadily and the tenth China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue has just been concluded successfully in London with fruitful results. Economic and trade cooperation has always been an important part of the relations between the two countries. The strategic partnership in the automotive industry between China and the UK has continued to deepen and become more interdependent, mutual beneficial and win-win. As the world’s largest automotive market, China is vigorously developing new energy vehicles. Its innovation capability and core competitiveness in the automotive industry are continuously consolidated and improved. Looking ahead, although Brexit brings some uncertainty, it also provides new opportunities for further deepening China-UK economic and trade cooperation. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and communication with the British side to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in the automotive industry and other sectors, establish closer economic and trade relations. We are also ready to strengthen dialogue and coordination on safeguarding the rules-based multilateral trading system and achieving common development of all countries.

During the panel discussion, Minister Chen answered questions on the China-US economic and trade relations, and the supervision and cooperation of new energy vehicles.

At the Summit, the participants spoke highly of China’s new measures to further deepen reform, expand opening up and promote innovation. They expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation with China to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
