Minister Ma Hui Visited Bloomberg's European headquarters
2019/07/09

On July 8, 2019, Minister Ma Hui of the Chinese Embassy visited the European headquarters of Bloomberg and held talks with John Fraher, Executive Editor of Business and Finance, Simon Kennedy, Executive Editor for Global Economics, and Elena Gergen-Constantin, Producer of Bloomberg TV EMEA. Counsellor Zhao Guohua of the Chinese Embassy was present.

Minister Ma covered the international situation, China-US economic and trade frictions and China-UK relations in the meeting, highlighting China’s position on issues such as Huawei, Hong Kong and the South China Sea. He hoped that China and the US would resolve economic and trade issues through dialogue and consultation on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and stressed that China-US economic and trade cooperation is by nature mutually beneficial and win-win. The US should keep its promise and work together with China for the same goal of putting China-US economic and trade cooperation back on the right track.

The tenth China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue held recently has achieved fruitful results, including the launch of “Shanghai-London Stock Connect”. China is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with the UK in various fields, strengthen communication and coordination on international issues, and jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism. Ma hoped that the British side would respect China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, handle the sensitive issues in China-UK relations properly, and work closely with China to advance the “Golden Era” of China-UK relations.

Before the talks, Chairman Constantin Cotzias of the Bloomberg European Headquarters extended his welcome to Minister Ma. Speaking highly of Bloomberg’s cooperation with China, he emphasized that Bloomberg European valued and intended to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in the UK. Executive Editor Fraher and others expressed appreciation to Minister Ma for the briefing which further enhanced their understanding of China’s policy and said that Bloomberg would be ready to do more to tell the world about where China stands on many issues.
