Minister Ma Hui Meets with Director of BBC News and Current Affairs

On August 2, Minister Ma Hui of the Chinese Embassy met with Fran Unsworth, Director of BBC News and Current Affairs. BBC Editorial Director Kamal Ahmed, Minister Counsellor Zeng Rong and Counsellor Zhao Guohua of the Chinese Embassy were present.

Minister Ma talked about China’s achievements in economic and social development over the past 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially the historic changes taken place since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and expounded China’s policies and position on China-UK relations, China-US economic and trade consultation, and issues of Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Huawei, etc. He expressed the hope that the BBC would report on China’s development and China’s internal and external policies comprehensively and objectively, so as to enhance understanding of China in the UK.

Unsworth said that in recent years, China’s economy and overall national strength are growing continuously, and its international influence is increasing. The BBC attaches great importance to and is willing to improve its coverage on China, so as to show its audience a lively and real China.
