Minister Counsellor Yang Xiaokun Attends the Celebration of the 6th Anniversary of the Founding of the Isle of Man Chinese Association and the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
2019/08/19

On August 18, Minister Counsellor Yang Xiaokun attended and addressed the Celebration of the 6th Anniversary of the Founding of the Isle of Man Chinese Association and the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. Government officials of the Isle of Man, including Chief Minister Howard Quayle, William Malarkey, Minister for the Home Affairs, Jonathan Joughin, Mayor of Douglas, and Chief Constable Garry Roberts, and more than 120 representatives from the Isle of Man and the Chinese community were present at the event.

Chief Minister Quayle noted in his speech that over the years, the cooperation between the Isle of Man and China has achieved positive results in economy, trade, education, culture, and local exchanges. The two sides have become more and more connected, and more and more Chinese companies have extended their business to the Isle of Man. Brexit will bring new opportunities for the two sides to strengthen cooperation. The closer economic and trade ties between the two sides will also attract more enterprises in the Isle of Man to invest in China. The Isle of Man is willing to seize the opportunity to further strengthen economic, trade, cultural and social ties with China and promote the sustainable development of the bilateral relations between the two sides.

On behalf of Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Yang extended his congratulations to the new chairman and board members, and sincere greetings to the overseas Chinese on celebrating the 6th anniversary of the Association and the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. He paid tribute to the outgoing chairman and board members for their hard work and fruitful results.

Yang said that since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago, the Chinese government and people have never stopped exploring the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. They have constantly enriched it in both practice and theory, enhanced it with distinctive national features of the times, formed the socialist road, theory, system and culture with Chinese characteristics, and made great achievements in various fields such as economy, culture, people’s livelihood, science, and technology. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-UK diplomatic relationship at the level of chargé d'affaires. The pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in various fields becomes increasingly closer and deeper. In recent years, the friendly cooperation between China and the Isle of Man has seen vigorous progress, and cooperation in the fields of investment, economy, trade, humanities and other fields has become increasingly close. He hoped that the two sides will further enhance understanding and deepen cooperation, so as to deliver more “golden fruits” in the China-UK “Golden Era”.

Lai Hui, Chairman of the Isle of Man Chinese Association, vowed to lead the Association to continue to work for the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the Isle of Man and China and between Britain and China, and deliver more fruitful results.
