On 30 January 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang attended the Chinese New Year Celebration organised by the British business community at invitation.

Regarding the development of Hong Kong, Ambassador Zheng pointed out that to support Hong Kong as an international financial centre, the central government has announced a host of new measures, including deepening the connectivity between the financial markets of the mainland and Hong Kong; opening the mainland banking and insurance sectors wider to the region; helping Hong Kong consolidate its role as an offshore RMB business hub; and supporting mainland financial institutions to strengthen their operations in Hong Kong. 

Ambassador Zheng emphasised that with the implementation of the National Security Law and the enhancement of the election system, and the advancement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong’s long-term stability and prosperity will be better guaranteed, and Hong Kong’s advantage as a conduit between the motherland and the world is more distinctive. Hong Kong will better serve as a bridge and bond for exchanges and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.
