Ambassador Zheng Zeguang Attends China-British Business Council Summer Reception and Delivers Remarks
2023-07-08 05:46

On 4 July, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang attended the China-British Business Counci (CBBC) Summer Reception and delivered remarks at invitation.

Ambassador Zheng said that the world economy is facing multiple headwinds, pointing out that the United States and its allies’ clamour for "de-risking" against China will inflict serious disruptions to the global industrial and supply chains and exacerbate economic difficulties and political rifts in the world, which China firmly opposes. Ambassador Zheng expressed his sincere hope that British people with insight will work together to resist such a negative approach and stick to the right approach of dialogue and cooperation.

Ambassador Zheng introduced China's economic development so far this year, noting that China's economy had a good start in the first quarter and maintained the momentum of recovery in the second quarter. He noted that China is acting on the new development philosophy, fostering a new development paradigm at a faster pace, and working hard to achieve high-quality development. He said that China is adopting more practical and effective measures to further tap the potential of domestic demand, invigorate the market, make urban-rural and regional development more coordinated, accelerate green transition, and advance high-standard opening up. He said that China has full confidence in achieving its economic and social development goals this year.

Ambassador Zheng noted that China will hold the China International Fair for Trade in Services in September, and the China International Import Expo in November. In the second half of this year, China will also host the 3rd Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit. He said that China welcomes more British friends to participate in those events, underlining that so long as the business communities of China and the UK join hands, keep to dialogue and cooperation, uphold mutual respect and pursue mutual benefit, more tangible benefits will be generated for the people of the two countries, and more certainty brought to the development of businesses and of China-UK relations.

The Reception was hosted by Andrew Seaton, Chief executive of CBBC, and addressed by Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, Chair of CBBC, and attended by nearly 200 representatives from the British government and business community.
