On 8 February 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang attended the Chinese New Year Reception held by the City of London at invitation. Professor Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of the City of London, and more than 200 representatives from the Chinese and British financial and business communities were present at the event.

Ambassador Zheng extended his best wishes for the Chinese New Year to guests attending the reception. He thanked the City of London for its active efforts towards enhancing financial and business cooperation between China and the UK in the past year, and expressed hope that the City will make new and greater contributions to promoting cooperation with China in the coming year. Ambassador Zheng briefed the guests on China's remarkable achievements in science and technology empowering economic development and in green and low-carbon transformation, and highlighted the important measures recently adopted by China to expand opening up in the financial sector, pointing out that there is huge room for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the UK in finance and other fields.

Ambassador Zheng quoted a Chinese proverb: “A year's plan starts with spring.” He expressed hope that the City will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China on green finance, financial technology and people-to-people exchanges, and continue to take the lead in the UK in promoting the steady development of China-UK relations in the new year.

Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli extended his New Year greetings to people working for Chinese enterprises as well as those from all walks of life in the City of London, noted that Chinese financial enterprises have made good progress in the UK in recent years, and thanked Chinese enterprises for giving important support to the City of London. He also said that the City will continue to actively carry out cooperation with China and provide good services to Chinese enterprises in the UK.
