On 11 February 2024, the Chinese New Year celebration of the Year of the Dragon organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA) was held atthe Trafalgar Square. H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang, and his wife, Counsellor Hua Mei, attended the opening ceremony at invitation. The organiser read out the congratulatory messages from King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Ambassador Zheng, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Lord Mayor of Westminster Patricia McAllister, LCCA Chairman Chu Ting Tang OBE, and Director of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese's "Festival of Spring" art troupe Guo Qihua, delivered remarks respectively on the occasion. Around 700,000 people, including representatives of the Chinese community, Chinese international students and institutions, people from various sectors in the UK, as well as tourists watched performances at the Square. Ambassador Zheng, speaking in both Chinese and English, thanked the LCCA for organising this grand event to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, and the artists who came all the way from Beijing and Guangdong and brought with them fantastic Chinese cultural performances, and sent his best wishes to the Chinese community, Chinese international students and institutions, and friends from all walks of life in the UK for the Chinese New Year. Ambassador Zheng and guests attending the opening ceremony also dotted the eyes of lions. The Trafalgar Square bustled with a huge crowd in festival atmosphere, sharing the feast of Chinese culture. The Nanshan Yingge Dance from Puning, Guangdong Province was majestic and awe-inspiring. The Southern Lion Dance featured thrilling moves on stilts. The Northern Lion Dance was lively and agile. And the Dragon Dance was mighty and dynamic. The "Festival of Spring” art troupe, the "Happy Spring Festival" art troupe, and local artists in the UK presented singing, dancing, instrumental music, acrobatics, and drama shows. The brilliant performances lasted for more than five hours, and were warmly received, winning thunderous applause from the crowd.
