Wang Yi Meets with Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews of Australia
2017/02/08

On February 8, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Melbourne with Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews of Australia.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Australia enjoy sound relations. Yesterday, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and I had a very good strategic dialogue. The Australian side reiterated its willingness to be a reliable cooperation partner of China. Both China and Australia are important engines for the economic development of the Asia-Pacific region. Both sides share great cooperation potential and broad prospects in strengthening cooperation. The foundation of state relations lies in the people's friendship and regional cooperation. Over the years, Victoria has adhered to a friendly policy towards China and actively carried out cooperation with various provinces, municipalities and departments in China, which not only fully conforms to the interests of the people of Victoria, but also conducive to its long-term development. It is hoped that Victoria will continue to walk in the forefront of China-Australia cooperation in the future.

Daniel Andrews noted that Victoria has a long history of exchanges with China. Cooperation in education, culture, tourism and other fields has been advancing with the times and overseas Chinese has made outstanding contributions to Victoria's economic development. Cherishing its friendship with China, Victoria attaches importance to strengthening cooperation with China, supports the Australia-China free trade agreement and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to settle down in Victoria. Victoria is willing to become China's gateway to Australia and makes greater contribution to promoting bilateral mutual trust and cooperation.
