Chinese vice president meets Salvadorean delegation
2018/08/21

Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan on August 22 met with a Salvadorean delegation composed of Medardo Gonzalez Trejo, the first designated to the presidency, Francisco Ruben Alvarado Fuentes, president's legal secretary, and Foreign Minister Carlos Castaneda in Beijing.

Wang conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to El Salvador President Salvador Sanchez Ceren and welcomed the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which is based on the foundation of the one-China principle, conforms to the cardinal principle of international righteousness and the trend of the times, opens up broad prospects for the development of bilateral relations and is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of China and El Salvador, Wang said.

He called on the two sides to do a good job in follow-up work, enhance exchanges, deepen mutual trust, and plan and promote mutually beneficial cooperation at a high standard, so as to write a new chapter of bilateral relations and benefit the two peoples.

The Salvadorean side conveyed President Sanchez Ceren's greetings to President Xi and said El Salvador attaches great importance to China's international position and role.

Establishing diplomatic relations with China is a historic decision made by El Salvador and accords with the interests of the two peoples, it said.

The Salvadorean side will adhere to the one-China principle, enhance exchanges and cooperation with China and promote the development of bilateral relations, it said.
