Wang Yi Talks about the Latest Round of High-level Economic and Trade Consultations between China and the United States (US) upon Enquiry
2019/08/01

On July 31, 2019 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand after their talks in Bangkok, Thailand, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi talked about the 12th round of high-level economic and trade consultations between China and the United States (US) upon enquiry. He noted, the Chinese and the US teams have restarted consultations on economic and trade issues in these two days, which not only implements the important consensus reached by the two Heads of State in Osaka, but also echoes the general expectation of the international community. This round of consultations is candid, efficient and constructive. It has taken an important step forward as the beginning of a new process. We believe that as long as the two sides earnestly conduct consultations on an equal footing in the spirit of mutual respect and accommodate each other's legitimate concerns, we will eventually reach a mutually beneficial and win-win agreement. This serves not only the interests of China and the US, but also the common interests of all countries.

Wang Yi said, the resumption of China-Us economic and trade consultations proves once again that no matter how complicated the issues or how glaring the contradiction between the two countries, both sides still need to and should sit down to have face-to-face communication for a proper solution to the problems. In addition, we also need to see that there are not only problems between China and the US, but also many cooperation areas. I have a plan to meet with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tomorrow, and this is an important opportunity for the two sides to contact and communicate. It is hoped that the two sides could have a comprehensive and in-depth exchange of views in a candid and constructive attitude, so that we could not only properly handle differences, but also actively explore cooperation and work together to build the China-US relations based on coordination, stability and cooperation.
