Wang Yi Interprets the Location of the Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting among China, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan at the Foot of the Great Wall
2019/08/20

On the evening of August 20, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at Gubei Water Town in Beijing with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Foreign Minister Taro Kono of Japan, who were in China for the ninth Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting among China, the ROK and Japan.

Wang Yi said, my colleagues and I chose the foot of the Great Wall as the location of the Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting among China, the ROK and Japan, as we East Asians can interpret the cultural symbols and civilization codes contained in the Great Wall. China, the ROK and Japan all have a long history. History has given us both important inspirations and profound lessons. From our historical experiences, we should never forget or avoid history. Only by facing up to history can we look into the future and open up the future.

Wang Yi noted, China, the ROK and Japan are important economies in the world. Amid the current prevalence of unilateralism, our three countries should unite as one and meet challenges together out of our respective interests and common interests as well as the common aspirations of the international community. Trilateral cooperation should transcend our differences and contradictions. It requires us to stay committed to regional peace, stability and common prosperity. Now it is precisely an important opportunity for us to enhance cooperation. I hope that with our joint efforts, we will make the Foreign Ministers' meeting among the three countries go smoothly tomorrow to build more consensus and fully prepare for the leaders' meeting within this year.
