Li Keqiang Meets with Special Envoy of Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond of the UK

On the afternoon of May 15, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Special Envoy of Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond of the UK, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

Li Keqiang expressed that China attaches importance to the development of relations with the UK. Under the current international situation, as permanent members of the UK Security Council, China and the UK have enhanced mutually beneficial cooperation at bilateral level, and maintained communication and coordination in international affairs, which are of great significance for both sides, the region and the world at large. China is willing to, together with the UK, consolidate mutual trust, well implement cooperation consensus on major areas including nuclear power and finance, and forge new highlights for cooperation, so as to promote bilateral relations and cooperation to new stages, and jointly send positive signals of committing to stability, opening up and prosperity, as well as working together to boost trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.

Philip Hammond delivered a personally signed letter from Prime Minister Theresa May to Premier Li Keqiang. He expressed that devoting itself to developing bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, the UK is willing to maintain high-level exchanges between both countries, further enhance bilateral cooperation in trade and investment , and intensify communication and coordination in international affairs.
