Li Keqiang and UK Prime Minister Theresa May Hold Discussions with Representatives of UK-China CEO Council

In the evening of January 31, 2018, Premier Li Keqiang and Theresa May held discussions at the Great Hall of the People with representatives of entrepreneurs who attended the Inaugural Meeting and the First Meeting of UK-China CEO Council.

Chinese Premier and UK Prime Minister listened to the speeches made by representatives of entrepreneurs from China and the UK. Li Keqiang expressed that China-UK economic and trade cooperation has embarked on the "fast track". And the two-way investment has been further expanded and bilateral trade has been developing in a healthier and more balanced direction. In the current context of global economic recovery, the establishment of UK-China CEO Council is conducive to further deepening cooperation between both sides. As the Chinese economy continues transforming and upgrading, China-UK economic and trade cooperation will enjoy broader space. Both sides should promote cooperation with an open gesture and inclusive mind and well grasp the dialectical unity between free trade and fair trade, in a bid to facilitate each other and achieve win-win results amid the two-way opening-up.

Li Keqiang pointed out that, as China further promotes reform and opening-up, we will continue optimizing the access and approval procedures for foreign investors to access the Chinese market and also hope that the UK will carry out the investment reviews of Chinese enterprises in a more open, transparent and fair manner. Entrepreneurs from the two countries are welcome to contribute their advice and suggestions for China-UK mutually beneficial cooperation to inject new impetus into bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The Chinese government stands ready to, together with the UK government, meet each other halfway, listen to the call of entrepreneurs from both countries, and take concrete measures to address problems existing in cooperation between Chinese and the UK enterprises, so as to constantly push China-UK mutually beneficial cooperation for concrete and in-depth development.

Theresa May expressed that the UK will continue maintaining openness after exiting from the European Union, and the UK and China are expected to establish broader economic and trade relations and usher in a new era of cooperation and partnership vision. It is expected that both sides should jointly build the "Global Britain" and "Global China", so as to benefit the people of both countries and the whole world.

Principals of more than 30 enterprises in such fields as finance, energy, telecommunication, automobile, medicine and transportation from China and the UK were present. The entrepreneurs had in-depth exchanges centering on China-UK economy and trade, investment, market access, cooperation in innovation, intellectual property protection, trilateral cooperation and other topics.
