On February 8, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with Peter Estlin, Lord Mayor of the City of London at the Mansion House.
Estlin said that in recent years, the City of London has been actively carrying out cooperation with China, which yielded fruitful results. The City of London believes that the Belt and Road Initiative will bring important opportunities to the UK and is willing to give full play to its strength in finance, law and professional services with a view to achieving early harvest in China-UK Belt and Road cooperation. He will lead a delegation to China in March to promote cooperation in the fields of Fin Tech, green finance and innovation. The City of London will also host a special celebration for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and will invite people from business and trade sectors of the two countries to participate in the event.
Ambassador Liu commended the City of London on the great importance it attached to the cooperation with China, noting that at present, China-UK relationship is developing steadily, and the cooperation in various fields between the two countries continues to advance. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic and 65th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship at the level of chargé d’affaires between China and the UK. He expressed the hope that the City of London would seize the opportunities of the Belt and Road Initiative to further deepen cooperation with China, so as to make greater contribution to China-UK “Golden Era”. The Ambassador wishes Estlin a successful visit to China.
