Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Alun Cairns, Secretary of State for Wales
2019-06-13 22:49

On June 12, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with the Rt Hon Alun Cairns MP, Secretary of State for Wales and exchanged views with him on China-UK relations and cooperation between China and Wales. Geraint Evans, Special Adviser to Cairns, Charis Wilkinson, Private Secretary to Cairns, Bao Ling, Minister Counsellor for Commerce and Counsellor Zhang Limin of the Chinese Embassy were present.

Ambassador Liu reviewed the current sound momentum in China-UK relations, saying that Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua is coming to the UK this weekend to host the 10th China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue together with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond. He hoped that this visit would bring new opportunities and inject new impetus into the "Golden Era" of China-UK relations. In recent years, cooperation between China and Wales has been progressing continuously. The two sides could further give play to their complementary strengths, enhance communication and connectivity between enterprises, and achieve more pragmatic results. He also extended China's welcome to Welsh companies to attend the 2nd China International Import Expo.

Expressing his appreciation to Minister Cairns for his commitment in promoting China-UK relations, the Ambassador hoped that Minister Cairns would continue to work for the sub-national exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and make contribution to the "Golden Era" of China-UK relations.

Talking about his visit to China and participation in the International Sustainability Conference in Guangdong last year, Minister Cairns said that he was deeply impressed by the rare historic opportunity that UK-China economic and trade cooperation is having. The British side welcomes Vice Premier Hu Chunhua to host the 10th UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue. He was convinced that the visit would greatly enhance the cooperation between Britain and China, and between Wales and China. Britain welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in Wales and explore ways to promote cooperation in the areas of automobile manufacturing, agriculture, education and aviation. He also expressed his readiness to play an active role in promoting such cooperation.
