Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil of Mongolia
2017/02/20

On February 20, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil of Mongolia.

Wang Yi expressed that both China and Mongolia put bilateral relations to important positions in their respective foreign relations. Bilateral relations not only enjoy sound foundation and accumulation, but face new development opportunities. Both countries should consolidate the political foundation and political mutual trust to transfer these opportunities into impetus and results. The two countries experienced setbacks in their relations some time ago. After earnest reflection, Mongolia has made solemn declarations and commitments and reiterated to firmly adhere to the one-China policy, respect China's core interests and major concerns on such issues as Tibet-related issues, which is of great significance in continuously pushing forward bilateral relations at a new starting point. It is believed that under the leadership of the Mongolian People's Party, the Mongolian side will abide by commitments and ensure bilateral relations to enjoy smooth, healthy and stable development, which completely conforms to the interests of both countries and their peoples. China has taken notice of the current financial difficulty faced by the Mongolian side and is willing to provide assistance within its power for Mongolia through channels including the International Monetary Fund and bilateral practical cooperation. The Chinese side stands ready to, together with Mongolia, well plan high-level exchanges in the next stage, reinforce the docking of development strategies of both countries, enhance cooperation in such areas as production capacity, investment and infrastructure, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges in youth, media, education and other fields, and strengthen communication and coordination within multilateral frameworks.

Tsend Munkh-Orgil said that a long-standing, stable, mutually beneficial and equal relationship with China is Mongolia's primary foreign policy goal. Both sides have always respected each other's core interests including independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the development paths chosen by the people of each country. Mongolia will continuously stick to the above principles and firmly adhere to the one-China policy. Mongolia reiterates that Tibet is an inseparable part of China and Tibet-related issues are China's internal affairs. The joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is conducive to promoting regional connectivity, and provides important opportunities for Mongolia's economic development. Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat looks forward to attending the International Cooperation Summit Forum on the "Belt and Road" Initiative in China in May and enhancing the docking between Mongolia's "Prairie Road" development strategy and the "Belt and Road" initiative. It is hoped that both sides could maintain friendly exchanges at all levels and in various fields, boost practical cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, minerals, agriculture, animal husbandry, transportation, culture and education, advance personnel exchanges and support each other in international affairs. The Mongolian side thanks China for providing support for the country to overcome current financial difficulty through multilateral and bilateral channels.
