Vice Minister Qian Xiaoqian of the State Council Information Office Visits Britain

From 3 to 4 June 2010, Qian Xiaoqian, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office, led a delegation to Britain.

During the visit, Vice Minister Qian met respectively with Executive Vice President David Craig and Editor-in-Chief David Schelsinger of Thomson Reuters, Editor-in-Chief Lionel Barber of Financial Times and Editor-in-Chief Alan Rusbridger of the Guardian. The two sides had in-depth exchanges of views mainly on the development of media, development and current situation of Internet, the challenges facing traditional media and the strategy for media development in the information age in the two countries. The British side stated the importance it attached to news stories about China, and expressed hopes to expand China-related coverage and willingness to cooperate with the Chinese side in this field. Vice-Minister Qian said that the British media is welcome to expand China-related coverage in their reports, and hopes they will uphold the principles of objectiveness, fairness and balance when writing stories about China. The Information Office is ready to provide necessary assistance and support.

Vice Minister Qian also visited the Chinese Embassy in the UK at the invitation of Ambassador Liu Xiaoming, and gave a lecture on China’s Internet development and management policies to the staff of the Embassy. During his stay in Britain, Vice Minister Qian also called on the representatives in London from Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television, China News Service and visited China Telecom Europe.
